Apple TV+’s Cape Fear Is Earning Strong Early Reviews Ahead of Premiere
Apple TV+’s upcoming psychological thriller Cape Fear is already generating buzz from critics ahead of its June 5 premiere.
Based on John D. MacDonald’s novel The Executioners and inspired by the classic 1962 film and Martin Scorsese’s acclaimed 1991 remake, the new 10-episode series stars Amy Adams, Javier Bardem, and Patrick Wilson. The project comes from creator Nick Antosca and features executive producers Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.
Early reviews have praised the series for its modern approach to the familiar story. Critics highlight Javier Bardem’s chilling performance as Max Cady, a man whose release from prison reignites a dangerous conflict with attorneys Anna and Tom Bowden, played by Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson.
In its review, Collider called the series a gripping update that successfully expands the story into a long-form thriller. Other critics have echoed similar sentiments. The Guardian described the show as an “immaculate update” and praised its tension-filled storytelling, while the New York Post called it a “brutal summer thriller” anchored by strong performances from its lead cast.

Unlike previous adaptations, the Apple TV+ series introduces new layers of moral ambiguity and contemporary themes, including media manipulation, misinformation, and the consequences of past decisions. The expanded format allows the story to explore the psychological warfare between Cady and the Bowden family in greater depth.
Not every review has been glowing. Some critics have questioned whether the story needed a 10-episode adaptation, arguing that certain plotlines feel stretched beyond the scope of the original material. Even so, the performances, production values, and suspenseful atmosphere have received widespread praise.
With an all-star cast, acclaimed filmmakers behind the scenes, and strong early reactions from critics, Cape Fear is shaping up to be one of Apple TV+’s most talked-about releases of the summer.

Severance Season 3 Officially Begins Filming as Production Gets Underway
The next chapter of Severance is officially underway.
After months of anticipation, executive producer and director Ben Stiller confirmed that Season 3 has begun filming, giving fans their first update since the shocking Season 2 finale. The announcement came alongside a behind the scenes image teasing the return of Mark S. (Adam Scott) and Helly R. (Britt Lower) inside Lumon’s unmistakable white hallways. Apple TV+ also shared the image with the tongue in cheek caption, “Please frolic in moderation.”
The production update comes as welcome news for fans who feared another lengthy wait between seasons. Following the nearly three year gap between Seasons 1 and 2, largely caused by the Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strikes, both Ben Stiller and Adam Scott have previously suggested that the turnaround for Season 3 would be much quicker. Earlier this year, Scott said filming would begin “very, very soon,” and today’s announcement confirms that production is now officially in full swing.
Although Apple TV+ has not revealed a premiere date, a 2027 release appears to be the most likely target if production stays on schedule. With principal photography just beginning, fans can expect filming to continue over the coming months before the series enters post production.

Season 2 left viewers with one of the biggest cliffhangers in recent television. Mark’s desperate mission to save Gemma reached a dramatic turning point as the mystery surrounding Lumon’s Cold Harbor project deepened. At the same time, the line between the employees’ “innie” and “outie” lives became even more complicated, setting the stage for what could be the series’ most ambitious season yet.
Apple clearly has long term confidence in the critically acclaimed sci fi thriller. Earlier this year, reports indicated the company had brought the series fully under Apple Studios after acquiring the rights from Fifth Season. Industry insiders have also suggested that the creative team envisions Severance continuing for at least four seasons, with the possibility of expanding the franchise beyond the main series.
For now, plot details remain tightly under wraps, but one thing is certain: the doors to Lumon Industries are officially open once again. With cameras rolling on Season 3, fans are one step closer to returning to one of television’s most mysterious and unsettling workplaces.
