‘Black Adam’Review | An Adrenaline Fuled DC Adventure

Published

on

I’m in SHOCK & AWE!! Black Adam is a spectacular display of Force with Electrifying visuals, action, and a powerful score from Lorne Balfe. The Rock was born to play this role as he builds The new era of the DCEU!! From New Line Cinema, Dwayne Johnson stars in the action-adventure “Black Adam.” The first-ever feature film to explore the story of the DC Super Hero comes to the big screen under the direction of Jaume Collet-Serra.

Synopis

In ancient Kahndaq, Teth Adam was bestowed the almighty powers of the gods. After using these powers for vengeance, he was imprisoned, becoming Black Adam. Nearly 5,000 years have passed and Black Adam has gone from man to myth, to legend. Now released, his unique form of justice, born out of rage, is challenged by modern-day heroes who form the Justice Society: Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher and Cyclone.

Review

“Black Adam” single-handedly changes the course going forward as the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change. under the direction of Jaume Collet-Serra “Black Adam” features an electrifying and powerful performance from Dwayne Johnson as the all-powerful “Man in Black”, the relatively unknown villain of Shazam brings his origin story front and centre as after being in the works for fifteen years Johnson and his team at Seven Bucks/Flynn Co have created one of the best DC superhero movies to date.

The film explores themes of what it means to be heroic or villainous, with shades of grey in between. Teth-Adam is a champion who challenged a tyrant king thousands of years earlier and the Man in Black becomes a fighting force with an appetite for destruction, he is awoken by freedom fighter Adrianna (Sarah Shahi). Still, his reemergence from a desert tomb proves to be both a miracle and a curse for the people who prayed for a saviour to defend them against Intergang, mercenary thugs who’ve been occupying Kahndaq at military levels without any intervention from the outside. Throughout the film we see Teth-Adam’s evolution, transforming the character towards being the hero Kahndaq needs.

As much as the movie is an origin story for our titular anti-hero “Black Adam”, it is also an origin story and first appearance in the DC Extended Universe for the Justice Society. Following his reemergence Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) has Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Dr. Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo) flying from Carter Hall aka Hawkman’s ornate estate as they board their jet and head to kahndaq to stop Teth-Adam before its too late and take him into custody.

Carter Hall/Hawkman is the leader of the Justice Society and can fly with the use of his Nth metal wings and weapons. he sees the world in black and white, regarding who is good vs evil. Aldis Hodge is such a powerful performer.

Perhaps my favourite member and overall DC character is kent Nelson, the original Dr. Fate, he’s easily one of the most powerful heroes in the DC Universe and Pierce Brosnan portrays Nelson’s big-screen debut with gravitas and suave. The most experienced and senior member of the Justice Society, Nelson is the son of an archaeologist, with whom he discovered the tomb of Nabu the Wise, he wields the Helmet of Fate which grants its chosen wearer the ability to see into the future and enhance their magical abilities. However, donning the helmet comes with a price.

The visual effects on Dr. Fate truly enhance his powers making him for me the MVP of the movie. Both Hawkman and Dr. Fate have a somewhat mentor/mentee relationship that is truly the heart and soul of the movie.

The remaining two members of the Justice Society are Cyclone and Atom Smasher. Cyclone aka Maxine Hunkel can generate and control wind and has the ability to create tornadoes. Albert Rothstein aka Atom Smasher has the ability to control his molecules and can grow larger at will.

Throughout “Black Adam” the audience experience the story through the eyes of archaeologist Adrianna Tomaz and her son Amon Tomaz (Bodhi Sabongui) Adrianna knows the secrets of Ancient Kahndaq and how it all relates to Eternium. Her son takes centre stage showing Teth-Adam the ways of becoming Kahndaq’s hero and his bedroom is full of easter eggs relating to the DC Universe with posters and figures of our favourite Justice League members.

The runtime boasts intense action sequences as “Black Adam” bushes the violence with a high body count and dark humour and the wire and stunt work is mighty impressive.

Final Thoughts

Thank you Dwayne for listening to the Fans! and for creating an absolute Blast of a movie that’ll single-handedly change the course going forward as The hierarchy of power in the DC universe is about to change!. “Black Adam” is such a thrill ride, a rollercoaster thats pure adrenaline. Make sure you hang around whilst the credits roll.

Batman And Superman: Battle Of The Super Sons Review: A Pre-Teen powered  Adventure!

Published

on

“Batman and Superman: Battle of The Super Sons” is the perfect gateway into the DC Universe and is one of the best entries in the long-running line-up of direct-to-DVD projects so far. The film also boasts a breathtaking new visual design as being the first ever all-CGI movie truly lends to the stylistic vision director Matt Peters and writer Jeremy Adams were going for. The pre-teen powered plot brings together the first on-screen pairing of the sons of DC’s biggest superheroes as the adventures of Jonathan Kent (Jack Dylan Grazer) and Damian Wayne (Jack Griffo) is off to a promising start that features action-packed sequences, exuberance, and plenty of fun nods and cameos from DC Comics and Superman: The Movie.

“Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons” honours and uses Peter Tomasi and Patrick Gleason’s comic run as its source and overall foundation so that this animated movie can portray the authentic versions of the characters. It gives us a cynical Damien Wayne, aligned with an innocent, naive, Jonathan Kent, both are awkward youths finding friendship but their different personalities are complimentary, especially in battle.

11-year-old Jonathan Kent discovers he has superpowers, thus the half-Kryptonian gets thrusted into the complicated world of Super Heroes and Super-Villains — who are now under attack by a malevolent alien force known as Starro. It’s a race against time as Jonathan must join forces with assassin-turned-Boy-Wonder Damian Wayne to rescue their fathers and save the planet by becoming the Super Sons they were destined to be.

WB Home Entertainment

Throughout the 83 years of comics, Batman and Superman have barely aged a day, however, both characters have had major storylines that have had the duo become devoted fathers to aspiring superheroes. The film also establishes the relationships the Super Sons have with their fathers but we also get to see Bruce and Clark raise their children which showcases a father’s strength and empathy, ultimately this movie is about the celebration of fathers and the bonds we share with them.

WB Home Entertainment

The animation is truly next level as it utilises CGI technology with 2D elements to create a stylistic and aesthetic feel, one that utilises each camera movement and each fight sequence as when the Super Sons take on Starro and their fathers, every punch and blow can be felt.

For a movie with a runtime of 79 minutes, Warner Bros. Animation continues to raise the bar in terms of animation, voice acting, and most importantly storytelling. “Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons” acts both as an origin story for Jonathan Kent and showcases the first teaming between Superboy and Robin. We focus on Jonathan discovering his powers and coming to terms with the truth about his father and we get a glimpse into Damien Wayne’s troubled past and dysfunctional relationship with his father.

WB Home Entertainment

As always with any WB Animated project, they assemble a stellar voice cast. Grazer and Griffo bring so much life to their characters. Grazer’s vocal performance portrays warmth and humour and Griffo excels at portraying Damien as overconfident, darker, and showcases a sense of superiority. The rest of the incredible cast gives strong emotion and performances. Troy Baker Delivers a grand Batman performance and Travis Willingham’s vocal performance as Superman conveys warmth, Laura Bailey’s Lois Lane is another standout.

Final Thoughts

Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons” has all of the staples of a strong animated feature and its Super too. Jeremy Adams’ screenplay provides the viewers with plenty of action, storytelling. and showcases the compelling dynamics these two young boys have and with their fathers. The film is truly an introduction into an incredible universe full of realatble characters and it also has tons of heart, The soundtrack is incredible with many memorable themes, especially when the score changes as we venture from Smallville to Gotham City. “Battle of The Super Sons is easily one of the best DC Animated movies to date, and I hope we get to see more of Damian, Jonathan, and of course Bat-Cow!!

“Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons”, Is now available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and Digital HD via Warner Bros.
