The countdown begins to ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ official trailer which is set to make its debut this Sunday. Snyder recently released pictures of Jared Leto returning as the clown prince of Gotham. The photos depict a road weary Joker, with long hair and tattered garbs. Snyder told Vanity Fair that he had always planned to bring the character into the universe.

“The Joker is really the only thing that I thought of in retrospect,” Snyder tells Vanity Fair. “But I will say that it was always my intention to bring Joker into that world.”

In an earlier interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Snyder spoke directly to fans who have seen the original cut and assured that we had only seen a fourth of what he had done, and that this new version would be an entirely new experience.

“It will be an entirely new thing, and, especially talking to those who have seen the released movie, a new experience apart from that movie.”

Snyder describes the Joker in his version as sort of a ghost of Christmas yet to come.

“The cool thing about the scene is that it’s Joker talking directly to Batman about Batman,” Snyder said. “It’s Joker analyzing Batman about who he is and what he is. That’s the thing I also felt like fans deserved from the DC Universe. That is to say, the Jared Leto Joker and the Ben Affleck Batman, they never really got together. It seemed uncool to me that we would make it all the way through this incarnation of Batman and Joker without seeing them come together.”
