‘Avengers: Endgame’ Almost Gave Us Thor Vs. Thor

Avengers: Endgame

*SPOILERS*

The Russo Brothers were faced with one of the hardest challenges in movie directing history, pulling off a satisfying ending to one of the longest running franchises in cinema. While ‘Avengers: Endgame’ offered up many surprises, some expected, others not. One fan-favorite moment in the film was watching Captain America square off against his younger self, inside Avengers Tower.

The Russo Brothers had planned for another of our heroes to battle a younger version of themselves.. While in Asgard, there was a story board that suggested Thor face the younger version of himself. We all know this would have for sure brought the laughs and fireworks. The Russo’s decided Thors arc would be better suited by having an emotional interaction with his mother.

Anthony Russo says, “it overly complicated (the plot).”

“I think there, we also deferred to the storyline between Thor and his mother. (It) was so resonant, that we really wanted to run… That was really more a part of Thor’s journey and repair than confronting his former self. So that’s really what happened there, why we went with that.”

Anthony Russo went on the say, they all liked the idea of, “Cap vs Cap better.” It sounds like they felt it more important to repair Thor’s onset depression, that    continued over from ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ into Endgame. Though it would have been cool to see the “Lebowski God of Thunder” face off against his more.. “Fit” self. It definitely made more sense to have Thor return to his confident self, before going into the final battle against Thanos.

“Thor had been on a mission of vengeance in the last movie, so we couldn’t put him on that. What is the end result of a guy who has lost so much and just blatantly failed? We wondered, ‘Okay, well, what if he does become a sort of depressive alcoholic?’ And the weight gain was just part and parcel of that state of mind.” – Christopher Markus to IndieWire

“We leave him in that state at the end of the movie. Even though he’s emotionally resolved. We fix his problem, and it’s not his weight. I know some people are sensitive about some of the humor that comes from it, which I understand. But our issue that we wanted him to deal with was his emotional state that his mom addresses. And I think he is the ideal Thor at the end of the movie, and he’s carrying some weight.” – Christopher Markus to IndieWire

Published

on

Ezekiel Sims (Marvel)

Founder of the Spider Society. A successful, but sinister business man. A Spider-Mentor. Here follows a brief background of Ezekiel Sims.

Hidden Motives

Ezekiel used his financial capital and influence to save a temple in Peru from being demolished all because of the chance to be a subject of the ritual that would grant him spider-like abilities. However, as a power-hungry man, he never feels satisfied for the quest for power. He obtains superhuman strength, speed, reflexes and superb resilience. He can stick to wall and also possess spider-senses. He however, does not rely on web-shooters or any other artificial gadgets and tools. He studies all the various ceremonies of the Spider-Clan.

Friends and Foes

Ezekiel finds himself helping out the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man many times but usually with his own agenda in mind. He even trains a new protégé and is forced to protect her from a vampire. Lets see who can guess who the vampire is, and no, I’m not referring to Morbius. Ezekiel finds himself the target of some sinister characters beyond the astral plane and he sacrifices himself to save the life of Peter Parker.

Sinister beginnings but with a noble ending, that is Ezekiel Sims. However, Tahar Rahim plays the primary antagonist in the Madame Web movie that has released last week. What is his motives or objectives this time?
