THOR: RAGNAROK: HULK FINALLY SPEAKING EXPLAINED

Published

The trailer for the third installment in the Thor franchise, “Ragnarok” has definitely hit fans with some fantastic surprises. But none of which seem to be more surprising than Marvel finally allowing one of its most powerful heroes the ability to use his voice.

Though hulk through out the phrase “Puny human,” in 2012’s ‘Avengers,’ true fans of the comics have been wondering when the minds of Hulk and Banner would finally begin to crossover. Well it sound like we have our answer. ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Director Taika Waititi has shed some light as to why the Hulk is now beginning to speak in Ragnarok, via a recent interview with IGN:

“I was always fascinated by the duality of Hulk and Banner, and seeing how their brains could be interconnected. Could we sometimes see Hulk and could we have a bit of Banner’s voice in there? Could we see Banner and have Hulk’s personality through there?”

Waititi went on further to speak about the internal struggle both characters [Banner & Hulk] will face, fighting for control of their shared body and mind:

“I think in this film we’re going to see that for the first time, where the two are fighting — really fighting this time — for control of the body. And Hulk talking, this idea of a more cognitive Hulk who can say sentences — that obviously has existed in the comics, but I think it’s something the fans want to finally see. It’s exactly what fans want to see, and what I wanted to see too.”

Mark Ruffalo also shed some light on Hulks new found ability to speak:

“Because he’s been the Hulk for two years now, he has the vocabulary of a two year old. So we have a speaking Hulk. Can I say that?”

It would appear that Banner has been in Hulk form for over two years and has picked up on how to speak. Which also explains why he is at the two year old level of speech. It should be interesting to see how this dynamic evolves over the course of ‘Ragnarok’ and ‘Infinity War.’
