Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

‘BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE’ GIVES US EXACTLY WHAT IT’S SUPPOSE TO

Published

Last night I had the opportunity to see Zack Sndyer’sBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.’  There have obviously been mixed reviews, with true DC fans loving the film and critics giving less than spectacular reviews.

I have to first start off by saying that I am a true DC fan, so I am a little biassed on the subject.  With that being said, I can see where critics felt the film was lacking.  I appreciate Jesse Eisenberg trying to bring a fresh take to the character of Lex Luthor but I don’t feel that it came across well.  At one point during the film, my girlfriend (who knows very little about comics or these types of movies) asked if he was actually The Joker..  His character came across as a nerdy, twitchy, borderline sociopath.  And not the confident world leader sociopath that we come to know.

Doomsday was disappointing as well.  The CGI was subpar at best.  I had anticipated he and Superman would really go at it more, based on the comic.

Now that we got the negatives out of the way, lets move on to the positives.  Outside of a few let downs, I thought this film was fantastic.  Easily one of the best superhero movies out there.  I believe Snyder accomplished exactly what he set out to.  Create a hero film that sets up future hero films in the DCEU, while also being the complete opposite of Marvel.

Henry Cavill’s performance as Superman was amazing.  He captured the continuing evolution of Superman as a hero, struggling with his choices and the cost of the choices he has to make.  The character had a wider range of emotions and you could feel that he was a tormented soul.

Ben Affleck definitely will make for an amazing Batman.  One thing people have to realize is this wasn’t an origin story or a “Batman film.” We are only introduced to a couple aspects of his psyche and how he is dealing with the events of what happened in Metropolis via ‘Man of Steel.’ But this movie has definitely made me excited to see Affleck go head to head with Jared Leto in a new Batman film.

Gal Gadot surprised me as Wonder Woman.  I wasn’t expecting much, but when she arrived on the scene.  It was amazing, she reminded me of the Marvel hero Thor, in the sense that she is a warrior.  In the face of what fans know as one of the most feared villains in the DC universe, she’s knocked down, smirks and shakes her head, as if to say, “You’re gonna give me a bit of a challenge huh big fella…?”

Overall, Batman v Superman will go down as one of the better Superhero movies ever made.  I am excited for the future of the DCEU.  This different take on a comic film, will keep the hero universe from being over-saturated.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

ORIGINAL SUPERMAN THEME TO RETURN FOR ‘JUSTICE LEAGUE!’

Published

on

With the final ‘Justice League’ trailer eminent and rumors flying in all directions about what we can expect from the Zack Snyder/Joss Whedon collaborated film. Fans have been collectively holding their breathe as to who’s side The Man of Steel will be on when he is resurrected. Reports suggest we will see a dark version of Superman, sporting his black costume and angry with the newly formed Justice League for allowing “His World” to end, that being the death of Lois Lane..

It would appear that the composer for the film, Danny Elfman has let slip some fantastic information that may shed some light into what we can expect.

In a recent interview with Billboard Danny Elfman had this to say:

“There are a few little fan moments. I instated a moment of the Wonder Woman theme that Hans Zimmer did for Batman v Superman, but I also had two minutes where I had the pleasure of saying, ‘Let’s do John Williams’ Superman,’ and that for me was heaven, because now I have a melody to twist, and I’m using it in an actually very dark way, in a dark moment. It’s the kind of thing that some fans will notice. Some won’t. It’s a moment where we’re really not sure whose side he’s on.”

It would appear that Danny Elfman was given the green light to include the original/classic Superman theme song composed by the legendary John Williams. It sounds like the song will play at a critical moment, when everyone is trying to figure out just who’s side the man of steel is on and make for a classic scene signaling the return of SUPERMAN!!

MATHEW VAUGHN: “HE’S A BEACON OF LIGHT IN DARKNESS”

Published

on

With ‘Justice League’ nearing and the resurrection of the Man of Steel imminent, fans have begun to wonder what we can expect from a “Superman 2” film. There hasn’t been much confirmed as far as the direction of the film, but some have speculated that we will see the “Rebirth” of Super girl on screen.

A very short list of Directors has emerged and with the recent and unfortunate departure of Zack Snyder due to family issues from the ‘Justice League’ film, one can only assume we will end up with a fresh take on the Man of Steel.

One name that has recently been talked about is ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ Director Mathew Vaughn. In a recent interview with Collider, Vaughn opened up about his possible vision for a Superman film:

“Weirdly if I did do Superman—and I made the mistake of telling someone yesterday I have spoken about it and then wallop (laughs)—I think my main take would be, it’s really boring but make a Superman film. I just don’t feel a proper Superman—I think Donner did it to perfection for that time. Just doing the modern—I wanna do a modern version of the Donner [version]. Go back to the source material… For me Superman is color, feel-good, heroic. He’s a beacon of light in darkness. And that’s what I think Superman should be.”

Though this take sounds exiting, I feel that was what Bryan Singer attempted to pull off with 2006’s ‘Superman Returns.’ The film took in a modest 391 million and was met with harsh criticism. It would be hard to say if Mathew Vaughn would be able to do anything different with this concept. But only time will tell what’s in store, for the last son of krypton.
